I thought I
could put here some commonly asked questions that
buyers have about shipping:
Can I ship two kids together?
Yes, you
can ship two kids together, but they must not exceed
70lbs. This means they need to be shipped around 4-6
weeks of age depending on each kids age/weight. I
actually do like to ship kids together as it helps
lesson the stress.
What does shipping a kid(s) cost right now?
You will
have a health certificate which costs between
$20-$30. (That is the cost for most states) If you
are in a state that requires more than the usual
health papers i.e. brucellosis and/or TB testing (or
will be importing) it will cost more and will vary
on where you live.
We have
found that the crate cost will vary from between
$65-$90 depending on the size (if you are shipping
kids together, the crate needs to be bigger).
The airport
we use, Sacramento International Airport, weighs the
crate on arrival and that is when we know the final
cost, but is usually between $190-$200. We work hard
to make sure we choose the cheapest route for your
animal and also the quickest route.
We charge a
gas fee to drive down to Sacramento as it is a 2 and
a half hour drive for us, one-way. However we do try
to ship multiple kids at a time so that buyers can
split the cost of gas. It is usually about $100
roundtrip for gas.
Please
realize that these prices can and do change, but
these are the prices that we have found most often
reflect the cost of shipping kids.
Is
there anything special I need to do when the kid(s)
arrive?
ABSOLUTELY!
Make sure and bring a bottle for the kid(s) as they
will be hungry! Wait until you are in a place that
is as safe and as quiet as possible before you take
them out less they get afraid and try to run. Bring
some sort of collar and leash if you are going to
take them out.
I will post
more here as I think of them.
